October 20-26 is this year’s National Estate Planning Awareness Week. While this unofficial “holiday” may not bring tangible gifts or hoopla, it provides an important reminder of one of the best gifts you can give yourself and your family: the creation, maintenance, and updating of a comprehensive estate plan.

Estate planning is more than just a quick draft of a will—it is about ensuring that, after you’re gone, your wishes are honored, your loved ones are protected, and your assets are distributed efficiently and according to your intentions. Without an estate plan, state laws determine how your property would be divided, which can create unnecessary delays, expenses, taxes, and even disputes among family members.

Whether you are just starting to think about your estate plan or its time to review and update existing documents, this week is an excellent opportunity to take action. FOS’s Estate Planning attorneys can help you create or revise your plan to reflect your current goals and family circumstances.
