On May 17, 2021, FOS issued a post discussing the City of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett’s and Health Commissioner Kirsten Johnson’s announcement that Milwaukee would likely lift most of its COVID-19 restrictions starting on June 15, 2021, but that face coverings would still be required indoors.
This announcement was made shortly before the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (the “CDC”) announced that fully vaccinated people are not required to wear face masks or practice social distancing for most indoor and outdoor activities.
The CDC’s guidance caused many to question whether the City of Milwaukee’s mask mandate would remain intact.
On May 18, 2021, the City Health Department issued a news release indicating that the “Moving Milwaukee Forward Health Order,” which includes the City’s mask mandate and capacity restriction, would expire on June 1, 2021.
Accordingly, as of today, the City of Milwaukee no longer has a mask mandate in effect. The City is leaving it to individual business owners and schools to decide what, if any, COVID-19 safety policies to enforce.
