On June 5, 2025, Matt O’Neill, dressed as Jonas Grumby, also known as the Skipper from Gilligan’s Island, awarded the Terry Evans Humor In the Law Award to attorneys Dave Peterson and Scott Hansen from Reinhart Boerner firm. Dave and Scott authored a hilarious legal brief defending a shady trade they made in a fantasy football league run by Matt. Their satirical brief was signed by Jonas Grumby as their faux counsel (along with a host of co-counsel, including Fonzie, Willy Wonka, Vinnie Barbarino and Tony Mandarich).
The award presentation is one of the highlights of the Eastern District Bar Association’s annual meeting and keeps alive the spirit and lighthearted approach to the law embodied by Judge Evans during his 32 years on the bench. In past luncheons, Matt’s costumes have included Gandalf, a pregnant judge, a pizza delivery guy, Tom Brady, and, as seen below, Princess Leia.
