Jamie B. Barwin


Jamie Barwin, who is a CPA in addition to an attorney, focuses her practice within the firm’s taxation, estate planning, business and estate administration divisions.

Jamie strives to help her clients achieve their goals. To that end, she provides estate planning services to families and businesses, helping them account for and organize their assets while establishing and maintaining their financial goals.  Jamie also helps her clients support their personal and professional futures, implementing appropriate estate and trust planning, including tax planning and planning for times of incapacity or disability.

Milwaukee native Jamie previously worked as an accountant in the areas of Audit, Mergers & Acquisitions and Taxation for Big 4 public accounting firms, and was a controller for a prestigious Chicago family.  Prior to joining FOS, Jamie practiced as an estate planning and administration and tax attorney in Michigan and Illinois.


Estate Planning


Regularly counsel’s individuals, families, business owners and financial institutions on estate planning, wealth transfer, and transfer-tax related matters.

Routinely drafts, develops and implements estate plans based upon client-specific planning goals.

Represents fiduciaries and beneficiaries in the administration of both probate and trust estates.

Advises clients on asset protection with domestic asset protection trusts, special needs trusts, and pre-marital and post-marital agreements.

Represented multiple privately held business owners in the transfer of their interests to future generations through trust planning.

Regularly prepares estate tax returns for taxable estates as well as to elect portability.

Represented various Michigan clients in establishing not-for-profit organizations.
